FAQs

Q: What days will Troop 649 place the flags?
A: Our annual Flag Placement Service is designed for the following five holidays:
Labor Day, Veterans' Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day.

Q: What exactly is your service?
A: On the mornings of the holidays noted previously, Troop 649 will place a 3' x 5' American flag  on a 10' long flagpole, a few feet behind the curb of your front yard, and then remove it before sunset. Our young men have been trained on the proper handling of flags and we will take good care of them at our own facility.

Q: How will the money be used?
A: Troop 649 will use its earnings to help our community by assisting in service projects throughout the Valley. A portion will be allocated for members of local underprivileged troops, and a portion will help our own Scouts attend such things as High Adventure Boy Scout camps
throughout the country.

Q: What method is used to place the flag in the ground?
A: A short metal sleeve will be driven flush with the ground, and the flag will be inserted within.

Q: Will the sleeve be removed?
A: Yes, it will eventually be removed after the last day of your subscription, which is November 11, 2022. If you elect to remain in our service, the sleeve will remain in place.

Q: May I have more than one subscription for my yard?
A: Of course! Have as many as you wish, and for only $50 each per year! If you find that your neighbor appears to have forgotten to purchase this flag service, you can buy one for their property also, perhaps as a gift to them!

Q: Can I opt to not receive a flag if I'm out of town for that Holiday?
A: Unfortunately we can't skip your home on individual holidays. However, your house will still look terrific as the flag flies in your yard. The flag will be removed later that day as usual.

Q: I didn't know about this program until after the season started. Do I need to pay full price?
A: Yes, we'll still need to charge full price for our service; we can't pro-rate the fee.
However, a flag flying in front of your house will fit in nicely with your neighbors.

Q: Do I get to keep the flag?  Whose flag is it?
A:  We are only selling the Flag Placement Service, the flags belong to Troop 649.  We'll also store them at our facility, where they will be waiting for the next holiday deployment!

Q: Did you know?
A:  During the spring of 2017, members within Troop 649 held seven Eagle projects, representing over 640 service hours! To obtain Eagle, Scouting's highest rank, a young man must lead a project that is helpful to his community.
